VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE ORGANIZATION TO HELP THEM
WIN A $2,500 WAGGLE GRANT!
Every year, countless dogs wait longer than they should for a home — not because they need less love, but because they're harder to place: senior dogs, black dogs, pit mixes, large breeds, and dogs with special needs. This August — known as DOGust — we teamed up with Miranda Lambert's MuttNation and their Love Harder initiative to invite our animal welfare partners to nominate themselves for the chance to win a grant supporting these dogs.
Vote for which organization you want to win from the list of applicants below to help boost their chances!
Voting closes September 10 at 11:59 pm PST. Winners will be announced by September 14.

Make A Stand Bully RescueOn March 13, 2026, a volunteer picked up a Cane Corso family from a north Texas animal shelter and drove them to safety… we were seeing a scared, neglected, and abused dog who would do anything if it meant her babies would be safe. ThisIsHoustonMaeve was confiscated by BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions as part of an ongoing cruelty investigation. By the time she was rescued, her body had been pushed to its limits. ThisIsHouston stepped in to give Maeve the chance she so desperately needed. She was rushed to Vergi 24/7, where veterinarians discovered that Maeve was suffering from pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus. She was also critically anemic, with a PCV of just 11%. She was so anemic that she needed an emergency blood transfusion simply to give her body a fighting chance… -
Wild Whiskers, Inc.
When 4-pound, 12-year-old Benny arrived at our county shelter in March, it was immediately clear that this tiny senior had endured a lifetime without the care he deserved. Montana’s Pack RescueChata is a sweet and gentle giant who recently found herself on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter in Houston. Like so many larger dogs, Chata was struggling to find a way out—and being a Heartworm positive senior made her chances of leaving the shelter alive even smaller… But sadly, this isn’t Chata’s first time needing a second chance. Records show that Chata was adopted from the same shelter in 2022, when she was also Heartworm positive. Somehow, for reasons we may never know, she ended up back at the shelter years later—once again facing Heartworm disease and this time, the possibility of euthanasia… -
Strong Paws RescueThis sweet 5-year-old mama arrived at a large county shelter in Houston with her newborn puppies, who were only a few days old. Sunnyside Street DogsNani and all six of her babies were set to lose their lives together simply because there was nowhere for them to go. Nani would lie in the shelter kennel quietly while her puppies pile on top of her… Then Sunnyside Street Dogs Rescue stepped in. But getting them out was only the beginning. Nani arrived in rescue needing medical care of her own. She has flea dermatitis with thinning hair and developed an upper respiratory infection… All six puppies are underweight, with a body condition score of just 3 out of 9. Because their mom is battling a respiratory infection, the puppies must also be closely monitored for signs of illness… -

But his journey isn't over yet. -
Barb's Dog RescueIn 2018, a volunteer found a frightened, very pregnant dog wandering the streets. She was exhausted, alone, sickly, and nearing the end of her pregnancy. We named her Katie. Because Katie was already an older dog (about seven years old at the time) she struggled during labor and needed emergency veterinary help delivering her puppies. Thankfully, Barb’s Dog Rescue was able to provide it, and all of her puppies survived. One by one, each of her precious babies found a loving home. Katie did not… Today, Katie is a senior dog living with painful osteoarthritis in her hips… -

Panther has already been living with dry eye, cataracts, and glaucoma. Now she's facing another painful challenge: chronic ear infections that have progressed into abscesses. To relieve her pain and stop the infection from spreading, Panther urgently needs a Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA). During surgery, her entire left ear canal will be removed. Because her left eye has also become severely affected, it will need to be removed as well to give her the best chance at a comfortable, pain free future. Unfortunately, Panther's journey may not end there. After she recovers, she'll see a veterinary dermatologist to determine whether her right ear can be saved. If not, she may need a second TECA surgery… -

Helping Hands Humane Society, Inc.Like many shelter dogs, Zoom hit a few bumps during his humane society journey. Our veterinary team began another round of exams, x-rays, and orthopedic evaluations to find the cause. Once surgery began, however, the team discovered an old fracture that had… -

Teresa's Cat and Dog RescueRingo repeatedly chews at his feet, and his rescue does not yet know why. His nails and paws need to be thoroughly examined, and he needs veterinary testing for allergies and other possible underlying conditions that could be causing his discomfort. His physical concerns are only part of what Ringo is facing. More recently, however, Crow has developed another concerning medical issue… -

Castaway Critters, The James A. Hueholt Memorial Foundation for Animals

Stray Dog SupportThe moment they saw the video, their heart sank. They immediately committed to helping with his medical care. Jigsaw was rushed to the hospital where it took 6 veterinarians working together because his injuries were so severe. So far, rescuers know he has multiple fractures to his jaw and around his eye, his eye is completely gone, and he has a broken leg. Veterinarians believe the eye injury is older because there was extensive infected bone that had to be removed—which means he's been living in unimaginable agony for quite some time. They also believe the broken leg is a newer injury, meaning someone likely attacked him twice… -
